Gain Weight By Balancing Nutrients

For a successful weight gain program, you have to establish how much you need to eat and what your diet should comprise of. The carbohydrates and proteins you eat must be eaten in a particular balance and the ratio has to be correct. Generally the accepted ratio is carbohydrates 30% to 60%, proteins 20% to 50%, and 20% to 30% fat. So find out what your current nutrient ratio is and then make the required modifications on that. If you have lots of weight that you want to gain then a workable ratio is 40-40-20 and if the weight gain needed is not too much then you could think on a 40-30-30 ratio. The ratio varies from person to person and body type. Weight gain is possible when the ratio is maintained properly.

Past attempts at gaining or losing weight will have given you an idea of how your body responds to these attempts. Do a lifestyle analysis before you plan a weight gain program. Your activity levels during a regular working week are what will help you decide on the diet that will aid your weight gain. If you have an active life which includes exercise then it may be a good idea to plan a diet with extra carbohydrates so the energy requirements are met. 25-55-20 might be a workable ratio.

Very thin people who cannot gain an ounce however much they try need a diet high in fats and proteins and not so much in carbs. A 40-30-40 ratio might be just what you need. If your aim is to have a high fat percentage then a ratio where the protein is at 40% or 50% will work. This works well for men where the body fat is more than 15% and in women with 25% body fat.

These are a rough estimate of what ratio your diet plan should have, ideally speaking. It is of course dependent on the individual body type and your doctor should be able to advise you on what the right diet is for you. The numbers are not here to scare you and two weeks into the diet you will find that you instinctively know what is working and what is not. Your nutrient ratio will need a revision if after four weeks you find there is not much weight gain.
