Gain Weight – Is It Really Necessary?

It has been seen though many studies conducted that people who have a healthy body and normal weight live the longest and live without sickness. A lot of people ask or wonder if they need to gain weight. It is a fact that being underweight or overweight means you are putting your life at risk and laying yourself open to problems. Being underweight means you have weak bones. The lack of weight and fat and muscle makes the bones weak which has it own ramifications on the overall health in the long run.

 

But again there are people who may be underweight in terms of kilos simply because they are slim built but it still does not mean their bones are strong. Underweight women often find themselves having problems with their menstrual cycle and maybe even with fertility. Falling sick becomes a problem because they don't have body fat reserves to help their body during the illness.

If there is a loss of weight that happened unintentionally then you may feel lethargic and tired. You doctor will be able to tell you if there are any medical issues that you need to look into for unnatural weight loss. A conscious effort to control you food intake and intentional reduction in food might be an indication of an eating disorder. Get a doctor's opinion on weight gain and a solution for your eating disorder if required.

Slender built people normally maintain a balance between their food intake and their body requirement. Body weight is generally determined by your gene pool and body type. If your doctor feels that you are underweight then you need to find a diet plan that will help you gain the necessary weight. Your doctor will advise you on the nutritional aspects of your diet. There must be an adequate intake of carbohydrates and proteins. Remember the weight gain has to be in the muscles not in fat. An increase in fat will only add to your health problems and give you an unhealthy body.

One of the most important things is to understand how happy you are with your existing body. Examine the reasons you want to put on weight and make sure they are the right reasons. Talk to someone if need be and get an idea of what the weight gain is going to be and whether it will make you happier with your body image. Once you have satisfactory answers to these questions, go ahead, plan a weight gain regime and enjoy building a new you.
