Meditation And Anti-aging

More and more people are taking to meditation in their search for peace of mind and meditation has slowly gained importance all around the world. People accept that the human body is energized positively by practicing meditation and the entire body is rejuvenated. A hitherto unknown but exciting fact is that a person can even improve his looks by meditating.

Until recently meditation was treated as a treatment to attain spiritual enlightenment. Now it has been uncovered that meditation can strengthen human immune system by inducing the secretion of the hormone melatonin. This hormone also slows down the aging process by reducing cell damage and is responsible for promoting deep sleep. Melatonin is even responsible for restraining the development of cancer cells.

The pineal gland in the brain secretes melatonin and recognizing the importance of this gland, Philosopher Descartes called it the "Seat of the soul", meaning the entire wellness of the soul depends on this gland. Hinduism says that the secretion of pineal gland is directly related to the mood of the individual. The more this hormone is secreted, the more happiness it creates and when it is not secreted in adequate amounts, it creates depressive feelings and thoughs.

University of Massachusetts Medical Center has studied the relationship between meditation and the melatonin production. The research concluded that secretion of melatonin in the body of the people who meditate is more compared to those who don't meditate. Biological Psychology Journal has recently published confirmation of the studies of the university.

Meditation is an art that can be done by anybody when certain tips are followed.

Your meditating place is very important

The ambience plays a major role for doing meditation. The meditating person must free his mind from all worldly distractions and hence the atmosphere must be free from noise and pollution.

Comfortable posture when meditating

Meditation requires your head, shoulders, neck and back to be in a straight line and free from stress. You can sit on a chair or on the floor and keep your legs crossed, a perfect posture for meditating.

Feel your breathing when meditating

You can focus on the air you are inhaling and exhaling. The feeling of the air entering and exiting the lungs is a perfect focus point for the beginners who need a target to focus.

Observe your thoughts when meditating

Stand out of yourself and observe the thoughts running in your mind. When you observe the activities of the mind you can see that it will try to fly away.

Focus when meditating

The focus must be on the self and you should never think about what happened in the past or plan about what you are going to do for the future. Think about the present and free your mind from all worldly distractions.

Meditation is a medicine which can purify your soul and the body. After meditating you will feel fresh and you can start your day work with more energy.
